Based on udders scanned using photogrammetry as well as scientific zoometric studies, a 3D-printed, ideal udder is suspended in a metal framework, scaled to the container box of an average Holstein Friesian cattle. Installed on a hillslope of Szent György-hegy, the work proposes to reflect on humankind's relationship to its environment and brings the notions of nature, cultivation, mass production and dystopia into play.

A fotogrammetriával készített szkennek és tudományos, zoometriai tanulmányok alapján megalkotott "ideális" tőgy 3D-ben nyomtatott másolata egy átlagos Holstein-fríz szarvasmarha befoglaló méretének megfelelő fém keretben lóg, acél sodronyokkal felfüggesztve.

Szalai studied photography at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, as well as integrated design at the Köln International School of Design. Besides, he also holds a degree in Art and Design Theory. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Multimedia Art at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest.
In 2020, Szalai was selected for the Futures Photography platform and nominated for the C/O Berlin Talent Award 2020. In 2019, he was a winner of the LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards and the recipient of the ON Award at OFF Bratislava. In 2018, he became a laureate of the Carte Blanche Award, founded by Paris Photo. In 2018–2019, he was a selected artist of PARALLEL - European Photo Based Platform. He has been awarded the grand prize at the Budapest Portfolio Review 2018.
His works were presented internationally at solo and group exhibitions and published widely in online and print media such as Le Monde, FT Weekend Magazine, Parnass Magazine and Die Zeit. Szalai's first book Novogen was published in 2021 by The Eriskay Connection.
Szalai is a member of the Carte Blanche Collective and the Studio of Young Photographers Hungary. He lives and works in Budapest.

A Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetemen és bécsi Angewandte-n tanult fotográfiát; BA diplomáját design- és művészetelmélet szakon szerezte. Jelenleg a Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem Doktori iskolájának hallgatója.
2020-ban a Futures program kiválasztott alkotója. 2019-ben a LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards nyertese.
2018-ban Novogen című munkájával elnyerte a Paris Photo Carte Blanche-díját és a Robert Capa Kortárs Fotográfiai Központ Budapest Portfolio Review-jának fődíját. A holland BredaPhoto Talent Programjának magyar nyerteseként a 2018-as biennálé kiállítója. 2018–2019-ben a PARALLEL Európai Fotográfiai Platform program résztvevője.
Munkáit Európa-szerte számos egyéni és csoportos kiállításokon mutatták be és gyakran publikálják hazai és nemzetközi médiumok. A Carte Blanche Collective, a Fiatalok Fotóművészeti Stúdiója és a Fiatal Képzőművészek Stúdiója Egyesület tagja.
